The new gods of soccer

I was used to hear about players who dominate the soccer world with their talents. Young players who were focused on how to get better, how to be on top of the world and most importantly how to remain. Can anyone answer to the following questions: Who was the last player to win the golden ball more than once? Who was the last player to dominate this game and be the best player in the world for 3, 4 , 5 years consequently?

Yes my friends, to answer this question you have to go back in time. In times that this sport was just a game, a beautiful game when players like Pele (Edison Arantes do Nascimento), Diego Armando Maradona, Johannes Cruijff, Michel François Platini, Franz Anton Beckenbauer, Dino Zoff, Eusebio, Ferenc Puskás Biró, Sir Robert "Bobby" Charlton, and so many other great players were dominating. Today you can hardly find a player who plays for the same team more than 4 years, so that he can become a part of team story, to face bad and good times along with the club. But nowdays, players move from one team to another just for a simple reason, MONEY. The last gladiator of the past soccer times was certainly Paolo Maldini and with him that age is over.

A new is already on stage and prepared to start the show of “Money is funny”. It started with Roman Abramovich with the supper spending campaigns at Chelsea and for what? Only his satisfaction. Lately Chelsea has not won any of the Champions League cups or any international prestigious trophy. Continuing with Sheikh al-Mansur and recently Mr. Perez, with his latest acquisitions: Kaka, C.Ronaldo and Benzema. My point is that in this particular moment, when the whole world is in a deep economic crisis, it is IMMORAL to spend something like €200 million to buy three players.

He just became the new God of soccer. Now players and other teams are like puppets in his hands. But let me ask something, do guys like Perez, Roman Abramovich, Sheikh al-Mansur think about tactics and techniques when they buy their superstars? Did they ever think what is going to happen with the clash of these talents in the same team? Did they think about the team play and the whole new strategy of the game or its only about marketing and business? This is the reason why I think that the new goods of soccer do not bring any god to this incredible game. To make a perfect team it is not as easy as to fill a check. You need a strategy, a staff who believes on it, young players who can grow up with that plan and experienced players who can teach to the young ones the love for the GAME, for the TEAM, for the STORY of the team. Call me romantic, call me old fashioned but I want the players to be on top of Olimp Mountain again.
