The thing that impresses me the most is that Carlo Ancelotti did manage to understand Chelsea’s and British philosophy really fast. Everything started with a big win in the Community Shield against Manchester Utd and with a strike of 7 wins in a row. He was able to galvanize even players like Deco and Anelka who weren’t playing enough with previous management.
Chelsea is not anymore a strong team who wins games just cause of their physical supremacy. Now they have a game identity, organized attacks, and great defense. And the surplus of this team for the moment is called Didier Drogba. A “monster”. Ancelotti did define him as the strongest and talented striker he has ever coached and I really do agree with him. I have never seen a player with such a physical strength, good feet and a “killer striker” instinct in the same time. He is in a great shape and for the moment he looks unstoppable. CHEALSEA = FORTRESS They scored 28 goals and concede just 8. But the most impressive statistic is that in home games they scored 15 goals and concede only 1 goal. This proves that the defense is really doing a great job but in my opinion they have to thank a really great midfield camp, with players like Essien, Lampard, Mikel.
Man Utd slightly behind Chelsea The Red Devils for the moment are not playing really good, but they are close to Chelsea anyway, and this shows that this team is still a great team even without Ronaldo, just need some more time to develop another game strategy, another game philosophy. Manchester for the moment is not the same team who dominated the two previews years. They are having troubles and struggling in every game. They lost Ronaldo and replace him with another young player, Valencia, but sir Alex Fergusons strategy was not to replace him with just one player but to give even other players like Nani, Anderson, that were under Ronaldo’s shadow, more importance and more responsibility in the team. It could be considered a winning strategy but in the long run. More needs to be for the moment. But the strange thing is that comparing defense and attack, it is the first that shows insecurity and somehow lost their supremacy. This was proved goals last Wednesday in Champions League against Spartak Moscow where the fragility of defense allowed them to score 3. And what is going to happen now that Rio Ferdinand is out? Manchester for the moment scored 23 goals and did concede 11. These numbers shows that Manchester is one step behind Chelsea but not that far. In away games they scored 10 goals and concede 4.
This game is going to be a very big test for both teams. Chelsea needs to confirm the good and positive shape they are in to now, and show that they are ready to fight for everything this year. Man. Utd on the other hand, needs to prove again even after Beckham, that No one is irreplaceable, even Ronaldo. And especially the biggest test ever for United defense, because there are going to face one of the strongest attacks in Europe. But you know that “When the game becomes tough, the toughest start to play”. This game might not be very important in terms of championship because there are still too many games to play, but the result will give to the winner “Honor and Pride”.
